3Fish has been born out of a
desire to create a commercially successful company, leveraging (but not
replicating) previous experience in a manner that "does the right
thing", that is something to be proud of, feel good about and have a
bit of fun with. When our kids ask us about global warming,
environmental degradation, child labour and sweatshops we would like to
say that we did something to make a difference. "We would like to
create a company that other people want to work for and be proud to be
associated with, and presume that we will attract people with a strong
moral compass", says Marty Dillon, Managing Director, 3Fish . The idea of leading industry change appeals to the 3Fish
team; "doing things a bit differently in an industry (particularly from
a supply perspective) that has been doing things in the same way for
many years. 3Fish aims to be
the industry benchmark for ethical sourcing. We want to create an
easily recognisable brand in the market place that represents ethically
sourced merchandise", says Natalie Dillon, Marketing Director, 3Fish .
It is expected that other suppliers will, over time, attempt to say
that "we can do that too". However, as market leader, and sole
specialist in this area 3Fish
aims to offer an unmatchable "authenticity guarantee" supported by an
independent audit trail. Philosophically, and hopefully, over the years
ethical sourcing becomes commonplace in the mass market and so by
having cool, funky design fundamental to the business, 3Fish will continue to provide innovative sourcing concepts to clients.
3Fish are making a difference
3Fish
combines extensive global promotional marketing and sourcing experience
with a certification and auditing program that ensures environmental,
social and economic sustainability, and traceability back to the
source. When our kids ask us about global warming, environmental
degradation, child labour and sweatshops let's all say that we did
something to make a difference. Recognise right now that every one of
our purchasing decisions has a ripple effect around the globe and
choose merchandise that you can truly be proud of and feel good about
at every level. It is time to make smart decisions about our
promotional marketing spend and take responsibility for the end results
of our demand. The inconvenient truth is no longer acceptable. Every
dollar you spend has the power to invoke change. 3Fish is all about merchandise with cool design that makes a difference...let's change the world and have some fun doing it...

Prior to certification, Alto Hotel
had already committed to reducing their carbon footprint through
offsetting emissions from electricity usage, fuel and flights directly
with their service providers. NoCO2
certification furthers the hotel's strong commitment to sustainability
and demonstrates ongoing efforts to contribute to a healthier
environment.
The Alto Hotel on Bourke
has enhanced its reputation as one of Melbourne's leading hotels in
guest satisfaction as well as innovation by becoming the Australia's
first carbon neutral hotel. Some food & beverage style hotels,
cabins and cottages have offset carbon from some of their services or
provide an option for guests to pay for offsets, however Alto is the
first city hotel to provide all of its services and facilities as
carbon neutral within its pricing.
The Alto Hotel is a leader in sustainable tourism
"We have already been recognised as a leader in sustainable tourism yet
wanted to ensure we continue to innovate and show that it is possible
to have guilt free travel without compromising on quality or service,"
said Gary Stickland, General Manager of Alto Hotel on Bourke."Instead
of simply paying someone to make our environmental footprint go away we
have ensured that we have minimised our output as much as practical
first, then made the decision to offset the remaining carbon that we
have not been able to remove from our operations" he said. "All of our
environmental initiatives have been made by considering our guests
first. This means that some guests are not even aware that they have
stayed in a sustainable hotel as we have designed our programs to
effectively be behind the scenes and not require any effort from our
guests, unless they want to be more involved." The hotel provides the
key ingredient for the potential to have a low carbon holiday or
business trip to Melbourne.
To achieve NoCO2 certification, Alto Hotel
undertook a comprehensive carbon emissions audit that captured and
quantified all of the hotel's greenhouse gas emissions. The audit
included emissions from fuel and energy consumption onsite; staff
travel, water and waste usage and flights taken by Alto Hotel
staff. In addition, the embodied emissions in the hotel's assets and
expenses items were also audited to capture indirect emissions from
supply chain purchases and any products bought, used and sold through
the hotel.
As a leading and conscientious green company in Australia, AndMine's Websites and Software are naturally at the forefront of green technology. As all of AndMine's
services are entirely carbon neutral (NOCO2 certified by the Carbon
Reduction Institute), by working with us your company will reduce its
CO2 footprint. We believe the majority of people do what they can to
reduce their effects on our environment and all companies should offer
green products that ensure this. We hope that others will follow in our
footsteps and become carbon neutral or, at the very least, reduce their
carbon footprint as much as possible. In the future it will be
necessary for companies to show that they have been purchasing
legitimate 'green' products so that they are well placed for any
emerging legislation and the emissions trading scheme.
Anston Paving Stones is proud to be the first paving manufacturer in
Australia to be certified Carbon Neutral. This was achieved through
conduction of a complete carbon footprint analysis by the Carbon
Reduction Institute. CRI calculated Anston's emissions from
electricity, fuel, waste; staff travel, assets and expenses. Emissions
from raw materials made up the largest part of the footprint.
Anston purchase energy efficiency carbon credits from the HELP project
to offset their unavoidable carbon emissions. Through regular emissions
monitoring and annual re-audits, Anston can confidently claim to be
truly carbon neutral.
Anston Paving Stones was keen to become
Carbon Neutral as a demonstration of its commitment to environment and
to continue to be a leader in its field. To demonstrate its commitment
to the environment Anston Paving Stones has planted 20,000 trees on its
own property over the last 10 years.

Adrian & Gabrielle Capra of the Art of Espresso Coffee Company
began their journey into coffee through the hospitality industry and a
love of the cafe lifestyle.
Eleven years ago, they opted for a
"tree change" and gave up the city lifestyle to open their dream cafe
in the country. It was either open a cafe or don't make the move as
Adrian could not go without his daily espressos. After many visits to
the country they wanted to introduce the city cafe scene to the country
and thus their quest to change the way coffee is perceived in the
country began.
They quickly gained a reputation for their
coffee, food and service but it was the coffee where they held their
passion. After serving coffee at local country events they decided to
design and build a mobile coffee cart.

Boomerang Books is proud to be Australia's
first carbon neutral online bookstore, independently accredited by the Carbon
Reduction Institute (Certification #NC166).
In addition to its carbon neutrality, Boomerang Books has
implemented a host of environmentally-friendly measures to minimise its
internal environmental footprint. In this way, Boomerang Books is
contributing to the environmental sustainment of the Australian book
industry.
Carbon Neutrality
Books are made of carbon. Trees are felled to pulp paper. Energy
is consumed to publish and print books. Fuel and resources are consumed by
the supply chain that delivers books to the customer's doorstep.
It is appropriate that Boomerang Books, as a book retailer, contributes back
to the environment from which its books are derived.
By making a contribution, Boomerang Books is helping to ensure that book publishing and retailing are
sustainable practices into the future. Boomerang Books is doing its part
to ensure that coming generations will have the opportunity to read and treasure
books, as we do today.
Like you we care for the environment. When you use Box n Go you’ll have
the comfort of knowing our storage and moving services are carbon
neutral.
Box n Go is an accredited carbon neutral business
Global
warming is changing the way the world does business. Consumers are
demanding low carbon products and services – we are proud that our
Company, Box n Go, is certified NoC02.
Our NoC02 certification
means that we have measured, reduced and offset our total greenhouse
gas impact. The NoC02 certification means we are carbon neutral as we
have negated all greenhouse emissions that occur as a consequence of
our operation.
As a start-up, we purchase accredited carbon
credits to offset the estimated emissions from the first 12 months of
our operations. Furthermore, we report to the Carbon Reduction
Institute each quarter on all of our directly controllable emissions,
including flights, electricity consumption and waste. The emissions
from these sources will then be offset each quarter. This is performed
through CRI’s online emissions reporting portal.
To cover off on
any uncertainties in this approach, we have agreed to have a full
carbon audit encompassing the emissions from all purchases made as well
as the emissions from staff travel and waste after completing 12 months
worth of operations. Through execution of the agreement, Box n Go is
liable to cover the shortfall between the amount offset and the amount
emitted through the purchase of carbon credits, should the latter
amount exceed the former.

In 2005 Bronte Surf Life Saving Club
decided to begin the process of making their club more sustainable and
to work toward the longer term goal of Carbon Neutrality.
All members of the
governing
body were enthusiastic as they could see the growing concern about
Climate Change and the potentially devastating effects upon the planet.
Being a Surf Life Saving Club and at the forefront of many of these
effects they felt it was their responsibility to make whatever changes
necessary to the Club and its surrounds.
In the same way that Major
John
Bond in 1903 had a simple community idea that became Surf Lifesaving,
the largest volunteer organisation in the world, we believe that if we
show and foster environmental initiatives that we may be able to help
our community in demonstrating what can be done to arrest climate
change.
Since the 2nd World War many clubs have claimed to be the first.

Carnival Connection started in 1994 as a small ‘hobby' business designed to make life easier for all those school volunteers who spent hours searching for items for their school fetes, fundraisers and in particular their Mother's Day Stall and Father's Day Stall. (Having been a long term member of my children's P & C Association, I know only too well how difficult it can be to source some of these items.)
Carnival Connection has done this for you. We have hundreds of novelties, lucky dip items, hairspray, face paint etc for your school fetes as well as many quality Mother's Day gifts and Father's Day gifts. Both the Mother's Day gifts and Father's Day gifts are sourced specially each year to keep up with what's ‘in' and many of them are branded. We also supply hats, masks and wigs for school and dance concerts, and if we do not have exactly what you are looking for we may be able to source them.

Cullen Wines
is located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The
company has always had a legacy about caring for the environment.
Initially starting in 1971 as a minimal chemical input vineyard, they
then became certified organic and then finally certified biodynamic
with the Biological Farmers Association.
In the
early 1960's
detailed climatic studies of various regions in
Southwestern Australia
revealed that during the winegrowing season, Margaret
River's
climate was similar to that of Bordeaux, particularly
Pomerol.
The conclusion that Margaret River was ideal for
viticulture was
first tested in Wilyabrup in 1966, when Diana and Kevin
Cullen
planted a trial acre of vines. The encouraging results
led to
the couple planting 18 acres of vines on their sheep and
cattle
farm in 1971.
Cullen Wines while remaining family owned has since evolved making
quality wine from biodynamically grown grapes sourced exclusively from
The Cullen Estate Vineyard and Mangan Vineyard.
The philosophy of Cullen Wines is to search for the best quality expression of the vineyard in the wine. The maritime climate, rocky soils, dry farming, and biodynamic practices all help to create individual and diverse winestyles which are unique to Cullen.

Since the conception of Nature Cover Products, the environment issues have been the mainstay in our business philosophy. We appear to have arrived on the market place at a time when environmental news is a daily occurrence around the world.
Nature Cover patented products have been in formation for many years, are of the highest quality and durability and are easy to apply. There are no harsh hazardous ingredients in the paints unique formula and the products literally glide on to the surface with ease while tools and equipment wash out in water. Products are odour free, kind to your health, the environment and your pocket.
Nature Cover uses recycled re-refined fossil fuel in its water-based
products - it actually feeds into the surfaces, and is no longer a waste
product, but an invaluable ingredient of unique high quality products
which are decorative as well as preservative.
We are actually helping the preservation of the world in our own small
way - a very positive environmental way.
Due to the way the world is heading, we have chosen
to become carbon neutral and are hoping to advise our customers the
importance of the environment and the climate conditions we are seeing.
We hope by making the change we will be making a significant impact in
giving a helping hand to the planet.
By offering plans and
products that are carbon neutral and supplying our new customers with
certificates, that they will realise that they are all helping to make
a change for our planet and our children's sake.

Medical imaging has a relatively large carbon footprint with all current forms of imaging, including ultrasound, MRI, X-ray, CT, or nuclear, requiring energy to produce the machines and then to create the medical images required to make a diagnosis.
We believe it is our responsibility to cancel any negative environmental impact involved in the production of our work.
ENVISION minimizes carbon emissions using 100% Greenpower, on a background of energy saving lighting, energy conservative fitout materials and by choosing low or no carbon businesses as our preferred suppliers.
We are proud to be fully accredited as a “no carbon” producing company – as far as we know, the first medical imaging company in Australia to have this distinction.
Adding value is also Eureka’s vision when it comes to the environment.
Eureka has certified NoCO2, or carbon neutral, with the Carbon
Reduction Institute and is now able to offer carbon neutral products
and services.
To earn NOCO2 certification, Eureka underwent a
complete carbon footprint analysis with the Carbon Reduction Institute.
This included calculating the emissions from electricity usage and
staff travel; waste, fuel and flight emissions, as well as all embodied
emissions in Eureka's assets and expenses. By investigating ways to
lower their carbon footprint, purchasing carbon credits to offset any
unavoidable carbon emissions, and undergoing regular emissions
monitoring and re-auditing, Eureka can now claim to be a truly carbon
neutral company.
Eureka's Vision is to:
* Lead the strategy, action and delivery of sustainable property and infrastructure investment solutions.
* Remain a truly active manager, focusing on adding value to investments.
* Provide a long term, innovative and sustainable platform to investors, fulfilling the various interests of investors.
* Provide a workplace for staff that is fulfilling, fosters good teamwork and, at the same time, demands that certain standards of competence and behaviour are met.
With our current contracted client expenditure over $2 billion and with
30 years’ experience in telecommunications and electricity cost
management, Eutility is ideally qualified to provide your organisation
with the expertise and contacts to deliver a significant saving to you.
The bottom line is that we can ensure the forward price for your
utilities is the best available for your business – in most cases lower
than you’re currently paying.
The best utility prices are just the first step
Everything we do is geared towards reducing the utility and compliance costs of your business, putting you in control of your utility usage and expenditure. Our success is based solely upon our ability to save you time and money.
As an office based company we have a relatively small impact on the
environment. However, that doesn’t mean we are not looking to minimise
possible impacts our company may have in relation to the environment.
We have implemented an efficient paperless office environment made
possible by continuing investment in software programmes coupled with
scanning of all documents and invoices, negating the need for large
storage areas. We store only electronic copies, and 50% of our
customers’ monthly bills are audited and validated online. We recycle
paper, toner cartridges and other disposables. We now use only 10% of
the paper used two years ago!
At Expos2 we have engineered a
Virtual Solution that will revolutionize the way Exhibitions and Events
are held around the world and in doing so, dramatically reduce the
environmental costs caused by carbon emissions arising from traditional
physical events.
It is something we are proud of and it was only
natural that we would seek to ensure that our own company was taking
appropriate action against climate change, to ensure that Expos2 itself
and our products and services were certified as being carbon neutral.
To this end we obtained an expedited certification from the Carbon
Reduction Institute as a NoCO2 accredited business. Achieving NoCO2
certification means that our organization is carbon neutral.
Under our agreement, the Carbon Reduction Institute have estimated the footprint that Expos2
Australia will incur from items such as purchase of assets, staff
ground travel and the use of third party services. The emissions are
estimated by applying benchmarks calculated from the results of audits
completed for similar sized clients.
In purchasing any product from Expos2
you will know that it will carry the Carbon Reduction Institutes
accreditation as being a Carbon Neutral Product which is something you
can also highlight. We are proud to be NoCO2 certified and to make a
substantial difference for a better future.

Fresh Espresso and Food Bar commissioned the Carbon Reduction
Institute to undertake an emissions audit of their business and through
the NoCO2 scheme run by the Carbon Reduction Institute have committed to
running a carbon neutral café. This means that every time you purchase a
coffee or meal from Fresh Café they have offset all the emissions
produced from the growing of the vegetables or meat, all processing and
transport and the energy they use onsite to prepare the food for you.
Fresh Espresso and Food Bar purchase energy efficiency carbon
credits to offset all unavoidable carbon emissions. By doing so, and
by undergoing regular emissions monitoring and re-auditing, Fresh
Espresso and Food Bar can now claim to be truly carbon neutral.
As well as a commitment to high quality food and coffee, Fresh Espresso and Food Bar has committed to reducing and offsetting all the greenhouse emissions that occur due to the existence of the café. Not only does this include the emissions from gas and electricity used onsite but also the emissions from the production and transport of the food and coffee they sell as well as the embodied emissions in all other company assets and expenses. This is a significant investment in a more sustainable future as the emissions from food production and transport can amount to a quite a large climate change impact.

Actual Data Upload: Rather than
assuming use patterns on devices Fulton Francis wanted to base all
calculations on actual verifiable data. This is achieved by physically
metering each device for an agreed period. Metering equipment will
capture actual usage patterns and also capture standby periods when
devices are still drawing power. Once the data is captured the upload
function can calculate the results from anywhere in the world.
Save & Export Function: Uploaded data is saved in a central database.
A
comparison can then be made with any future device analysis, so as to
accurately quantify any carbon emission/electricity savings.
The export feature allows all data to be graphed for analysis in the summary report.
In developing these innovations to the standard carbon calculator
model, Fulton Francis has shown a commitment to accurately quantifying
all costs associated with a company's print infrastructure. Clients can
then make informed decisions, based on verifiable data, to optimize
their printing infrastructure in order to meet their global
sustainability goals.

In 1996, when the Dauré family undertakes a strip of study in Chile and Argentina, they return convinced that Chile was the 'promised land'. It's culture is a little as theirs; Latin background, the language is familiar and the Chilean wines conquered them. Soon after, they began to look for the country estate and they travelled across the country from Casablanca in the north to the valley of Curico in the south. They chose the valley of Colchagua and specifically Apalta, it seems to them one of the best Chilean native land.

Being genuinely concerned about its impact
on climate change, Light House Laundry has undertaken a carbon
emissions assessment with the Carbon Reduction Institute in January
2008 and has gained NoCO2 certification.
Having found that energy usage in the form of electricity and gas are
Light House Laundry’s biggest contributor to climate change, the
company is now implementing measures to reduce its energy usage and
purchases carbon credits to offset unavoidable emissions.
We congratulate Light House Laundry for taking this important step for the environment!
The Little Dog Bookshop is very much committed to preserving our
environment for future generations to come. Kate MacMaster wanted to
make sure her shop would not have any negative impact towards climate
change and commissioned the Carbon Reduction Institute to undertake a
complete carbon footprint of its operations. This included emissions
from electricity and gas usage, staff travel; waste, fuel and flights;
books sold, transport and embodied emissions in other company assets
and expenses. Kate now purchases energy efficiency carbon credits to
offset all carbon emissions associated with the Little DOg Bookshop,
while she progressively works on reducing her shop's overall carbon
impact.

Marina YE has now taken its environmental awareness to the next level and has become one of Australia’s first marinas to certify NoCO2 under the Low Carbon Marina Initiative administered by the Marina Association of Australia and the Carbon Reduction Institute.
To participate, CRI undertook a carbon footprint analysis to determine Marina YE's impact on climate change. Emissions were calculated from electricity usage, fuel and gas usage; staff travel, embodied emissions in assets and expenses, and flights and waste. Marina YE undergoes quarterly emissions reporting and annual re-auditing to make sure their carbon neutral claims remain valid. Therefore Marina YE can claim to be a truly carbon neutral business.

Mercure Hotels offer quality 3.5-4 star accommodation to make your
stay away from home as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Mercure is part of the Accor group, a European leader and major global player in travel, tourism and corporate services.
Mercure Hotels have engaged the Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI) to
consult on the group’s Carbon Neutral conferencing program launched in
2008 – ‘Mercure Meetings’. To enable Mercure Hotels to offset the
emissions from their conferences, CRI provided the hotels with a
conference calculator that takes into account emissions from energy
usage such as heating, lighting and cooking; as well as food and
stationery provided at the conferences.
Providing those calculators will give the Mercure Hotels a
significant competitive edge over other, emissions intensive conference
venue providers.
The Carbon Reduction Institute is proud to partner with Mercure in New Zealand for the first nation-wide carbon neutral meeting offering from a major hotel chain.
The Mercure Meetings offering is specifically designed to measure and offset the greenhouse gas footprint produced by each meeting service. Each Mercure hotel then funds the cost of the offsets and will not pass them on to you.
The Carbon Reduction Institute in conjunction with Mercure calculates the emissions from the following:
- energy used to heat, cool and ventilate the venue
- electricity consumed by lighting and AV equipment used
- emissions embodied in the food and beverage packages supplied for the event
The emissions from these services are calculated based on the running sheet of the event using published life cycle data, an input/output analysis of the New Zealand economy and emission factors provided by industry bodies, universities and the Ministry for the Environment. These emissions are then offset using carbon credits that are certified under the internationally recognised Voluntary Carbon Standard.
Currently the offsets will be funding the ‘Household Energy Efficient Lighting Project’ (HELP), implemented by Energy Mad (a New Zealand based company). With the aim to lessen climate change through economical energy savings, Energy Mad have partnered with electricity networks and retail outlets encouraging consumers to purchase the Ecobulb (Australasia’s highest performance energy saving bulb) at a heavily discounted rate. By installing Ecobulbs to replace incandescent light bulbs, the initiative leads to a direct reduction in fossil fuel electricity generation and reduces consumer’s electricity bills and wastage in our landfills.
What is not included in the emissions calculation is the travel by attendees to get to and from the event as well as any material brought in by the event organisers. The emissions from these sources are often the largest contributor to the total emission of an event, therefore the total event should not be referred to as carbon neutral unless these emissions have been calculated and offset.
* Mercure Meetings is not offered by Mercure Dunedin Leisure Lodge

Our winery was founded in 1934 by Pietro De Martino, who arrived in Chile in search of a place to satisfy his passion for winemaking.
Our vineyards now stand on one of the former branches of the river, which lends the soil characteristics that are unique in the valley and particularly good for grape production.
The third and fourth generations of the De Martino family now work in the winery every day. Today, more than 80 years after it began, the winery maintains its dynamism, family tradition, and the adventurous, pioneering spirit of the De Martino family.

At first glance our approach may seem procedural and prescribed; however our usual approach is friendly and informal. We find that the demands on business are often extremely high; however you do not need your adviser to become another problem... unless of course your undivided attention is required.
The way we maintain a relaxed approach is by dealing with the hard questions often, this way complexity becomes the norm and your near disaster will often turn into a welcome coaching session or time out from a demanding schedule.
Our experience may come from a number of areas; formal training, updates, seminars, ad hock research, or even an unrelated client, in all likelihood we are dealing with needs similar to yours right now.... if we haven't come across a new problem we would be delighted to assist.
Our vision is a world where all products are manufactured with a “cradle to cradle” approach. This means considering the environmental impact at every stage of the product lifecycle, from manufacture to disposal, with the intention to minimise the use of natural resources at every stage.
With technology advancement in recycled and recyclable material there is no reason why we have to choose items made from cheap virgin materials that can only be used once. Collectively this method will significantly reduce the amount of rainforests being destroyed, it can ensure people are treated kindly in their work and ultimately can educate the next generation to do better than we have.
After receiving the NoCO2 certification in November 2008, Power Documents & Freight (PD&F) can proudly declare that it is the first transport company in Sydney to go carbon neutral.

interested in harnessing the value of a green boutique delivery
service.
Now with the NoCO2 accreditation, PD&F is aiming
to be a leader in progressing sustainable transport services across
Australia.

In early 2009, Rubik commissioned the Carbon Reduction Institute to
undertake a complete carbon footprint audit on the business to see what
actions can be taken to reduce the impact Rubik's operations have on
climate change. The audit included emissions from electricity usage,
flights taken by Rubik staff; fuel usage and waste; staff work travel
and staff commuting from and to work; and embodied emissions in Rubik's
assets and expenses items.
Rubik now purchases carbon credits from the Karnataka Renewable Energy
Project
in India to offset their emissions. These carbon carbon offsets are
accredited under the Voluntary Carbon Standard and have been
third-party audited by DNV. The Project has been registered under the
United Nations Clean Development Mechanism since 2007. To find out more
about the credits Rubik purchases to offset its emissions please click here.
By
undergoing regular quarterly emissions monitoring and annual
re-auditing, Rubik can now claim that it is a truly carbon neutral
business.

Stu Brown, Paul Tenorio, Steve Hudson and Kyle Williams all met while studying at Newcastle Conservatorium, and formed the group in 2001 as a one off, for a proms concert at the con. By popular demand they continued to sing together and in 2002, toured the UK and France with the University of Newcastle Chamber Choir. Since then, they have performed around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley at various weddings, functions and locations including City Hall and the Hunter Valley Gardens.
Short Back and Sides care for the environment and have been certified carbon neutral by the Carbon Reduction Institute (noco2.com.au).
The quartet performed on Australia's Got Talent 2009 and reached the semi finals. Here's what one critic had to say:
“If you thought barbershop quartets were old guys singing vintage tunes, prepare to be amazed. Short Back and Sides wowed judges and crowds alike with their recent appearance on Australia’s Got Talent. This talented foursome gave barbershop a new spin with a soaring rendition of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” Individually these guys all have the vocal chops to impress a capella. But when their voices come together the magic really happens. Who needs a string section when you can harmonize like this?”

In this environmental fashion, Soldiers Point Marina has become one of
the leaders of the Clean Marina Program, a program which endeavours to
protect our coastal and inland waterways. Soldiers Point Marina has now
taken the next step and has become the first marina in Australia to
certify LowCO2 under the Low Carbon Marina Initiative - Australia's
first low carbon neutral marina!
This required Soldiers Point
Marina to undergo a comprehensive carbon footprint analysis with the
Carbon Reduction Institute, and a subsequent implementation of
customised carbon reduction strategies and the purchase of certified
carbon credits. Soldiers Point Marina undergoes regular re-auditing and
emissions reporting to make sure their low carbon neutral claims remain
valid.
We
are very proud of our near 100% customer retention record and we care
about our associates, our customers, our suppliers and the environment
we live in. That is why we have become a certified carbon neutral
product supplier (NoCO2) and why we continue to seek ways to reduce our
collective carbon footprint as well as encouraging like-minded partners
to adopt a carbon reduction program of their own!
Make your business carbon neutral with the Carbon Reduction Institute
SBA has recently taken responsibility for the impact of its business’s operations on climate change. SBA commissioned the Carbon Reduction Institute to undertake a carbon emissions assessment on its operations, including energy usage, employee travel, waste, and embodied emissions in products and services sold. SBA now purchases carbon credits to counterbalance its unavoidable carbon emissions and is in the course of implementing strategies to lower its carbon footprint.
We congratulate SBA for making this important step for a sustainable future!

Steele Associates Architecture are an environmentally conscious company
that have taken large steps to reduce their impact on the environment.
They have engaged the Carbon Reduction Institute to quantify the
emissions produced from the running of the business and recommend
measures to reduce these emissions. The Carbon Reduction Institute has
created and surrendered greenhouse abatement certificates to offset
these emissions, making Steele Associates the first NoCO2 certified
carbon neutral construction and architecture business. The Carbon
Reduction Institute will monitor the emissions produced by Steele
Associates to ensure their carbon footprint is reduced and remains
offset.
Steele Associates
undertook an apartment renovation for the ACF using energy efficient
lights and appliances and environmentally friendly products.
Steele Associates
took another step for the environment and had all the emissions
generated from the renovation calculated and offset by the Carbon
Reduction Institute. This involved calculating the embodied emissions
of all the products used in the renovation a well as emissions from
power use onsite and travel to the site and then offsetting these
emissions using carbon credits created through energy efficiency
projects.

The experience of going on exchange can bring enormous rewards:
Learn about the world first hand
Open career doors you didn’t know existed
Get to know how others live and come to see the world from another perspective
Learn another language
Test yourself and acquire independence and maturity
Make new friends and appreciate old ones even more
Gain experience and judgement
But living overseas is not easy:
It requires courage to travel half way round the world to live with
a new family in a new community very different from your own
It requires flexibility to attend a new school, make new friends and perhaps learn a new language
It requires an open mind to live in another culture, to observe and
appreciate the differences and to truly learn from the experience
?You become immersed in the local community
You will find that all the familiarity of home – the ways of doing
things, the people, sights, sounds, smells - are suddenly no longer
there. You will be confronted with completely different ways of seeing
and understanding the world around you
You may encounter homesickness and culture shock particularly in the early stages of the program
But
if you are up for a challenge and have realistic expectations then
being an exchange student can be a life changing experience.

The Low Carbon Marina Initiative was launched at the Australian Marine Innovation Conference on the Gold Coast. Keynote speaker Senator The Hon Kim Carr, Australian Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research said, "Climate change is pressing to our marine industry. The Low Carbon Marina Initiative to be launched today is one example of how the marina industry is responding to this challenge."
The initiative is part of the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) vision to be a leader in marina environmental programs. The MIAA has set a goal of a 20% reduction in the operational carbon footprint of Australian marinas by 2015.
MIAA has partnered with the Carbon Reduction Institute to develop and manage the Low Carbon Marina Initiative. The initiative provides a simple certification system to enhance the sustainability of marinas and related businesses. It allows for participation at varying levels of carbon reduction. Participating businesses go through a three step process. Firstly there is an assessment of the carbon footprint; then development of strategies to reduce carbon emissions, and finally the offsetting of unavoidable carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits.
The Initiative provides marina and related operators with real cost savings and marketing benefits at a time of rapidly growing consumer awareness of the need to act on global warming.
As part of the development and lead up to the launch marinas, in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland are already participating in the Carbon Marina Initiative. Superior Jetties are participating and MIAA expect over 40 businesses will be involved in the initiative within eight months.

Vigilant Solutions has taken steps to reduce energy consumption by
replacing
existing downlights with energy efficient compact fluorescent light
bulbs and applying motion detectors to all office lights. In addition
to this, Vigilant Solutions has taken steps to increase recycling
including a program to take back computers sold to customers, to ensure
they are recycled and disposed of properly. Vigilant Solutions has
furthermore implemented an extensive recycling policy in its office
with great success.
All remaining emissions are offset through
the Carbon Reduction Institute. Vigilant Solutions has far exceeded its
offset requirements by applying $1.00 from every hour of service work,
and offsetting 2 tonnes from every PC sold.
Vital Plus owner Frank Sellam immediately took to the concept of the
Low Carbon Spa & Beauty Initiative when he first heard about it.
After an initial phone conversation and proposal, he decided to engage
the Carbon Reduction Institute to undertake a carbon footprint analysis
of his business. Frank recognised that this would give him a
significant competitive advantage over other businesses in the
industry, while allowing him to take appropriate action to reduce his
carbon footprint which he could leverage against well-founded
calculations.
The Carbon Reduction Institute determined that
Frank’s business was responsible for just under 775 tonnes of CO2e last
year. This number was established using internationally recognised
methods and standards, and included emissions from fuel consumption,
electricity; staff commuting, flights; waste and product freight as
well as embodied emissions in products, assets and expenses. By
purchasing carbon credits to offset those unavoidable carbon emissions,
Vital Plus can now say it is truly carbon neutral.
Vital Plus purchase energy efficiency carbon credits from the HELP
project in New Zealand to offset their unavoidable carbon emissions.
The HELP projects distributes energy saving light globes around New
Zealand households, while also assisting in educating consumers about
the importance of reducing their carbon footprint at home. The HELP
credits meet CRI’s stringent assessment criteria for carbon credits and
bring along important other benefits.

We work towards realising this vision for the women of the Mt. Druitt community by providing information, community development, counselling, support services and group work. The W.A.S.H. House is a service run by women for women.
We have begun the challenging task of minimising the impact of human
induced climate change. William Roberts have commissioned an emissions
report from the Carbon Reduction Institute to investigate our impact on
the environment and to determine measures that could be taken to reduce
this impact.
The aim is to reduce greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere,
and we achieve this by purchasing the same number of 'carbon credits'
(one credit represents saving one tonne of carbon dioxide from the
atmosphere) as our equivalent carbon liability.
Other efforts to reduce our impact include liaising with carbon
neutral suppliers and implementing a clause in our supplier engagement
agreements that details minimum requirements.
William Roberts' objective was to be carbon neutral by 2010. By
developing internal awareness programs and through team commitment,
William Roberts is pleased to announce that we are now carbon neutral.
XTM
is committed to expanding its product line both in Australia and
overseas. New and exciting additions are always in the pipeline,
initiated by the constant feedback we received from our sponsored
skiers and boarders.
We here at XTM
are dependent upon Mother Nature for our livelihood. We recognise the
growing impact of climate change on our environment and the threat it
poses not just to our industry, but to the planet as a whole. It is
because of this risk that we thought we needed to recognise our own
environmental footprint and take some action to minimise our impact on
the planet.
To do this we enlisted the help of the Carbon Reduction
Institute to conduct an audit on the whole of XTM's
business. This audit determined what our total carbon footprint was and
calculated the level of carbon credits that we needed to purchase to
offset our total footprint.
But we are not happy with resting on our
laurels and are determined to continue to reduce our total carbon
footprint by managing our energy usage, purchasing carbon offsets
whenever we fly, and to continue to look for new environmentally
friendly product to add to our range.
We actively encourage all our
business partners to join us in making our planet a cleaner, healthier
place to live. We do this on behalf of our children's children.
Achieving
the Carbon Neutral Certification will allow Zaffyre to help lead the
way and be closer to our vision in assisting business leaders,
economies and communities to be more powerful and to create a world
that will be more sustainable.
The fragile relationship between the environment and wine production means climate change will dramatically affect the wine industry. Temperatures in most Australian wine regions are projected to increase up to 1.7°C by 2030 resulting in irreversible changes which wine businesses will need to adapt to. At Zilzie, we have always had a strong environmental ethic, so deciding to eliminate our carbon footprint and promote a wine range as carbon neutral was one more step to show we care about our connection to the land. We also were excited to see the potential benefits from marketing and staff education.
The first step in engaging the Carbon Reduction Institute to make our wine carbon neutral was to undergo a comprehensive carbon audit that quantified the greenhouse gas emissions from the life cycle of the product from cradle to consumer. See our disclosure statement for more details about what this included. An audit report produced by CRI showed the sources and breakdown of emissions. We then purchased carbon credits to offset these emissions and certify the Bulloak range under the NoCO2 certification program.
